Pet Peeve

Why oh why would anyone want to disable the back button in a website? It's like jailing your potential customers/clients! The only logical explanation I can think of is, "Woo-ha-ha-ha-ha, we got you into our site, and now you can never go back and see [our competition/your search results/whoever linked to us] again!!" If you have no idea what I am talking about and want to torture yourself, check out Orgegon Chai's website from this list of Google results (new window for your convenience). Then try to go back to the Google results (don't cheat by holding down your back button) after you get on their site. Don't say I didn't warn you!

I agree wholeheartedly, and I'll add a couple of other horrible affronts to usability:

- scrolling text in the status bar (luckily I don't see this too often anymore)

- disabling the context menu

Luckily, the drop-down next to back button lets you skip backward more than one step in the history at a time...

Okay, I'm thoroughly convinced now. You work for Google. That's three blog entries in a row referencing Google. That's just a given... Don't deny it. I know who you are.
