Firefox Problems
If you ever come across a problem using or updating Firefox, the following will usually solve the problem (and also let you keep all of those passwords you saved as well as your bookmarks!). Follow the simple steps below:
- Browse to your profile folder (usually something like c:\Documents and Settings\Your Name\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\default.xxx). Back up bookmarks.html (and key3.db and signons.txt if you want to keep your saved passwords) to a separate directory (your desktop?).
- Uninstall the old version of Firefox. Make sure you also go in and delete the profile folder under the same location as above. Also, if the program folder (Mozilla Firefox) still exists (under c:\ program files\), go ahead and delete it as well.
- Install the latest version of Firefox, but don't import any profile data (if it asks). Run it once and close it down. This will create your new profile folder.
- Go back to your profile folder, (c:\Documents and Settings\Your Name\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\default.xxx) and paste the files you backed up (ONLY the bookmarks.html, key3.db and signons.txt files!).
- Now, launch Firefox again. All problems should be solved, and all you will need to reinstall will be your extensions. I recommend installing the extensions one at a time, and testing Firefox after each install to make sure an extension wasn't the culprit in the first place.
